Laser hair removal procedures impair the growth of hair follicles when they are in the growth cycle at the time of the procedure. There are three phases in a person’s hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. This is why you need more than one session. Most people require approximately four to eight sessions to have desired results. This is standard practice with most types of laser hair removal systems.
Candela GentleMax Pro 2018 is our latest award-winning, multi-wavelength system. We have two Candela GentleMax Pros that can treat a wide range of clients. However, it may not be safe for individuals with heavily tanned and/or very dark skin (Skin Type VI), due to the laser targeting the melanin in the skin. In addition, most lasers are not effective for those with light, red or gray hair.
Our laser utilizes a special patented cooling system that lowers the temperature of the skin at the procedure site before, during, and after laser exposure. It is almost painless. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required, but for more sensitive areas, topical anesthetic cream is available at our office.
You must thoroughly shave your hair preferably the same day of the procedure. Avoid indoor or outdoor tanning and use of self tanning products for approximately four weeks. Do not wax, tweeze dye hair or have electrolysis two weeks prior to the procedure. Avoid skin care products with irritants such as Glycolic Acid or Retin-A in the procedure area for about a week.
Once the laser hair removal procedure is complete you are free to return to your normal activities immediately. Some clients may experience a slight reddening around the hair follicles immediately following the procedure. This reaction typically disappears within a few hours. The use of sunscreen at or above 25 SPF is recommended on all skin areas exposed to the sun for approximately the next four weeks following the laser procedure. It is also recommended that the client avoid heavy sun exposure for the next four weeks. Application of ice or aloe gel after the procedure will generally facilitate healing and cooling. Approximately two weeks after the laser hair removal procedure the body will exfoliate the dead hairs.
Most clients experience a mild stinging or burning sensation when the laser pulse is delivered and some may experience a slight reddening of the skin or local swelling. This typically disappears within a short period of time from anywhere between a couple of hours to a couple of days.
The FDA has cleared the GentleMax Pro laser for permanent hair reduction. Since lasers have only been used for hair removal for approximately 20 years, it is difficult to predict the effects of the procedure and how long it will last. However, studies have shown that clients are usually hair free and satisfied with the results.
The device glides gently along the skin, penetrating the layers of the skin closest to the surface, of a depth of up to 2mm to create numerous tiny needle wounds. The therapy encourages the body to respond through creation new collagen and elastin fibers. As the skin responds, it plumps and thickens, reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles and fine lines
- Mild to moderate acne scarring
- Surgical scarring
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Stretch marks
- Pore size and skin texture
- Keloid scarring
The skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. For better results we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin-C serum or skin lightener for pigmentation during the procedure. A small handheld pen like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.
Sometimes. Most people will experience mild redness and possibly some swelling. The same way you may feel with a mild sunburn. Effects may last for 24-48 hours and there may be pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Within several days to several weeks you will notice a smoother, brighter, and more radiant appearance, however, the full effects of the treatment do not appear until several months later.
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup may be used after procedure.

Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage at the beginning Micro-needling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc). Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.
